April Foolishness #8

1.
I was thinking about how I could motivate myself to get after my clutter.
It's not at hoarding stages yet.
But if I keep ignoring it........
I decided to spend 30 minutes a day focused on one room.
It really works.
In theory.
I'll start tomorrow.

I got distracted from de-cluttering when I went into my Sewing Room Closet.
Sheesh!
I have way too many unfinished projects.
So I grabbed one of them and decided I would finish it.
Hence...the cancelled declutter session.

2.
It's really ugly fabric.
I think that's one of the reasons it remains unfinished.
I signed up for one of those "Block a Month" quilts
Obviously that idea didn't work either. hehe.
But I was determined to finish it today.
I spent a long time cutting the ugly fabric into small squares and quarter triangles.
I had to measure to the exact instructions.
3 5/8 inch. 1/2 inch seam.
You have to follow the pattern very closely.
In the end. If you did it correctly.
You have a (almost perfect) 12 1/2 in block.

What is amazing to me is that this really ugly fabric
is turning into some really beautiful.
I think there is a lesson in here.
(these aren't the ugly fabric blocks)
(I'm too lazy to go in and take pictures of them)
(The clutter would stress me out)

3.
Our little tiny Mia Maid class went down to Bonanza tonight to watch
Haley in a play.
What a nice theatre Bonanza has.
It was ironic to me that we sat in this very state-of-the-art theatre
and listened to the director tell us about all the crazy budget cuts the school
district is doing.
All the foreign languages. Cut.
Art Classes. Cut. Choir. Cut. Band. Cut.
It was sort of sad.

But the play was VERY cute.
We didn't actually get to see Haley because the orchestra
doesn't actually play in the theatre.
They are in the orchestra room and watching the play on a live
video stream.
I told you it was state-of-the-art.
But.....She was the only flutest, flautest, flutess.......
person that plays the flute in the orchestra.
So we could hear her very clearly .
She is awesome.

4.
A couple weeks ago we spent a few days at the beach house.
(I'll post about it soon)
It was so fun to have everyone there.
After everyone left I stayed for a few days by myself.
A.ma.zing.

Is this the greatest creative setup in history?
In my history.
Definitely.
This is another one of those
"Block of the Month" quilts.
I did actually finish last time I was there.

It's so cool to see things go from small scraps of nothing to something.

April Foolishness #6 & 7

1.
Winner! Winner!
Chicken Dinner!
Yay! for winning my match today! 6-1 6-2

It just makes it so fun to play hard and come out on top.
We played out at Anthem Country Club.
I totally enjoy driving out to those places.
Love looking at the Red Rock Mountains from the other side of the valley.
I love that skyline and appreciate its beauty every time I drive west on the 215.
Anthem sits up higher than you think. The city looks very pretty from there.
Especially after a win!

2.
So.  The government is shutting down in 48 hours.
It's weird that we are not hearing more about it.
I bet if Facebook was shutting down we would be all up in arms.

3.
I saw lots of blue balloons on my neighbors mailbox this morning.
It was so windy out that I wondered why she put them out so early.
I was worried the balloons would be blown away in the
crazy April winds we have been having.
Then I realized the baby shower had been the night before.
I totally missed it.  I was already to go tonight.
Made some really cute stuff for the baby.
Duh!
I wish this was the first time I did dumb stuff like this.
It happens way too often!

4.
Jake and I think this guy would look cute with a mohawk.
Thoughts?

5.
My friend Kelli and I were assigned to come up with a skit for
the 4th years at our Girls Camp Kickoff next week.
I'm completely blank.
I've got nothing.
Help

6.
I am really missing these people.

I love them.

April Foolishness #5

April Foolishness #1-3.
I'm sure they will show up eventually!

1. A Favorite Runyon Dinner.
London Broil.
Those Potatoes
Mosh Pit Salad.
No Dessert.
Boo.
But I am only 9 days away from meeting my 2 months of no sugar.
I dream of cupcakes, Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Jam, Donuts.........
9 more days....
Yum Scrum Delishishness!!

2. Girls Night Out.
What a fun surprise to get a phone call yesterday afternoon from my friend, Linda, inviting me to a Girls Night Out. Literally.
The Country Music Academy & CBS was filming a tribute to the Super Women of Country Music (is that supposed to be capitalized???) called appropriately
"Girls Night Out!"

Some of my greatest blessings are in this picture.

How could I not dance and sing with Wynonna singing Proud Mary!!
What great women I have in my life.
Not only inspirational but super fun too.

My Super Women. Barbara, Sonya, Kathy, Linda & Teresa

Jamie, Holly, and Holly. More Super Women.
Reba.
The Judds.
Martina McBride.
Miranda Lambert.
Carrie Underwood.
Amen.

What a great lineup, right? In addition to hearing them sing individually they each did a duet with the likes of Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, John Fogerty, Jason Aldean and one of my favorites...Vince Gill!

Wow.
WOW!!
Thanks Linda!

3. I have a tennis match tomorrow.
I really, really want to win it.
Wish me luck!

4. I so grateful for late night chats with my kids.
What a joy to visit and share laughs and thoughts with Jake and Sarah tonight.
Jake & Sarah New Year's Fun 2010
I love them.

Life is good.
Hands up! Lord Praised!

April Foolishness #1

I set a goal.

I plan on following my delightful friends,
 Jen, Allison & Suzanne,
and try to blog a post a day in April.

Something about that day.

Something about the fun events I have missed blogging about.
And one daily gratitude.

It's April 4th.
I'm only 4 days behind.
Thats good.
Because it could be the 22nd and I could be very discouraged!
But I'm still optimistic about doing this.

Wish me well.

Somehow I think I'll have plenty of
inspiration.

Love her.

Game Night!

We are usually a Pinochle playing family.
Completely competitive. Laugh in their face when their down.
Matches that have lasted for years.
Really.
Years.
Keith's ahead but not by much.

But pinochle is a very structured 3 or 4 person game.
There was too many home to play pinochle.

Looks like the next best thing is Poker.
Alec got a great poker set from Santa.
Nice.
Santa respects us Vegas natives.

We start em young around here.

She's calculating the odds of pulling the right next card.

The handsome dealer. You gotta watch him though.
He counts cards. Because he knows we are all nervous
about his card counting...he is perfecting the bluff.

A kiss for luck!

Or maybe they taste like blueberries.

Obviously she's not a wee bit happy about this card. She was looking for a jack.

Om second thought....maybe I can win a few bucks with this hand.
Nice deal Daddy! wink wink

My most important New Years Resolution

I don't care what anyone says.
 I l.o.v.e. New Years resolutions.
I love a fresh start. A clean slate.
Hopes and dreams to chase after.
It's a little late to start....But start I have.

Some of the old faithfuls-
Win more tennis matches than I lose.
Try a new restaurant every month.
     Keep my blog current.  pressure
Daily do things nice and unbeknownst for my family.
(keith gave me that word..he's really smart)
Dream of far off places.

Somewhere in my head there are some that rattle around like-
Lose 20 pounds.
Cut out french fries.
Work out regularly.
Wake up early.

But these are really unreasonable wishes.
I just ignore them.

I'm still working on the real list.
I actually do write them down and try to do them.

There is a new one I am working on.
Getting to know my Heavenly Father and my brother,
 Jesus Christ.
Better.  More intimately.  More personally.

I am teaching my beautiful girls tomorrow and I ran across this quote from President Hinckley. I love him.
My hope is that I can grow closer to being able to bear this testimony from my own heart.
With all my heart.

Because I know that all the rest is just not really that important.
(well maybe the part about great restaurants)

A follow up

A post or two ago I revealed a deep dark secret.
Only known to the few teenagers that snuck into that room through the doggie door hoping to find Jake or Alec awake and available for some sort of shenanigans,
I'm sure.
Cowards.
Never had the guts to call me out on my little secret.
My housekeeper knew and she would offer to come over and throw every single thing away and organize it for me but in translation
it sounds way more like a threat than a favor.

So.
It finally got done.
On November 30th at 958pm.
Whew.
I was so determined to complete my goal list.
Its a great idea. I recommend it highly!

So....
tada!
Here is the most beautiful laundry/craft/print/house filter you have ever seen.

Before/After
Before/After
Before/After

I know. I Know
Shocking. Hoarders is depressing.
I'd much rather play Amazing Race.
